Across the U.S., as millions joined “No Kings” protests and Los Angeles resisted immigration raids, Donald and Melania Trump marked the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary—coinciding with the president’s 79th birthday. Trump called the lavish display—featuring 6,000 troops, helicopters, tanks, and robotic dogs—a chance to “show off a little.”

Melania made a quiet statement in an ivory-and-navy pinstripe suit by American designer Adam Lippes from his Spring/Summer 2025 collection, mostly made in New York. The tailored double-breasted jacket and skirt, paired with denim Christian Louboutins, reflected her preference for sharp, structured looks.

Lippes has dressed former First Ladies Jill Biden and Michelle Obama, as well as Kamala Harris. Melania previously chose his designs for Trump’s second inauguration, wearing a navy suit with a wide-brimmed hat.

While she often favors international luxury brands like Dior and Dolce & Gabbana—typically bought off-the-rack—she strategically wears American designers for political moments. In 2017, her Ralph Lauren inauguration outfit drew comparisons to Jackie Kennedy. Recently, she’s worn Bottega Veneta and a Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo jacket for official portraits.

Trump, meanwhile, stuck to his standard navy suit, white shirt, and red tie.

The event was politically charged—fulfilling Trump’s long-held desire for a military parade in D.C., complete with heavy opposition. Meanwhile, Marines in Los Angeles made their first civilian arrest amid ongoing protests against ICE raids.

Through her fashion, Melania consistently mirrors the Trump administration’s blend of severity and spectacle.
