For the past three years, stylist duo Storm Pablo and Marvin Douglas Linares have been constantly on the move, mostly touring with their main client Bad Bunny, who recently finished his DeBí TiRAR MáS FOToS World Tour in August. “Bad Bunny is the most important part of Marvin and I’s story,” says Pablo. “He’s not only our biggest client, but our friend. He’s a dream client because he’s willing to try anything—from the first day we worked with him, he’s always told us to go bigger and beyond what we’re doing.”
It was during these frequent touring travels that the two stylists found major inspiration for their latest creative project—a travel bag collaboration with the French leather goods brand Moynat. “One thing I noticed when we started traveling was how boring a lot of travel bags are,” says Pablo. “One of the most depressing things is going to the bag carousel and people getting their bags mixed up, because every single bag is the same.” The duo imagined if they could instead give travel bags more style and personality—and this was perfect timing for when Moynat reached out about a collaboration. “It’s been two years in the making,” says Linares.
Their new joint bag collection, called Hotel Moynat, releases today. The line—perfect for fellow jet-setters—includes tote bags, hobos, duffles, pochettes, passport holders, bag charms, scarves, and hard-sided trunks, all covered in “stickers” that are actually stitched onto the leather or canvas styles. “The first Moynat element that stood out to us when we got invited to the atelier was seeing the hotel stickers they used to put on trunks,” says Linares. “Storm looked at each other and were like, ‘this has to be a part of it’—especially because we basically live out of hotels.”
Naturally, to debut their new assortment of travel bags, Pablo and Linares enlisted Benito himself to model some of the new pieces: In the official roll-out, Bad Bunny carries one of their monogrammed pouches, photographed backstage at one of his tour shows. “It made us feel really good that he cared about us in that way, to support us,” says Pablo. It also made sense for the superstar to rep the collaboration, given a Puerto Rican flair is omnipresent in the designs: “There’s some very personal stickers on the bags—some from Puerto Rico, or Guam, which is where Storm’s from,” says Linares. “There’s also one from El Salvador, where my family is from. Having those elements on product from such a renowned French house—it’s insane to us.”
Another personal detail of the partnership is how the duo envisioned these new travel bags being worn. Given they make their living as stylists, both Pablo and Linares wanted to design pieces that could suit any type of personal aesthetic—from minimalists to maximalists. To them, the bold travel bags can and should be treated as a neutral. “They’re something you can wear with just a sweatsuit, or you can wear it with more out-there outfits, and they still complement each other,” says Linares.
They also added that designing product is no different from trying to come up with the perfect outfit: It’s all about finding the right balance of proportions, utility, and balance. “When we do clients, it’s a more yin and yang approach,” says Pablo. “We learned it’s the same when it comes to working on product.” (The duo is not the only stylists to cross over into the design world, either: Stylists like Karla Welch have worked with Levi’s, or Law Roach with brands like On.)
The Hotel Moynat collection will be available exclusively at worldwiMoynat boutiques on October 15; prices range from $350 for bag charms to $5,100 for larger Mignon top-handle bags. (Hard-sided cases, meanwhile, are made to order and priced upon request.) Who could they see rocking these colorful and graphic travel bags? Bad Bunny, of course—as well as fellow stars such as Dua Lipa, Pharrell, or Tyler, the Creator. As for their next buzzy collaboration, the duo hints at clothing, but says, “We’re open to anything at this point. Sky’s the limit!”
