With their tousled ends and untidy bangs, the models looked as if they’d just rolled out of bed. At the Fall 2025 shows, they walked the runways flaunting all kinds of messy hairstyles: disheveled strands at Miu Miu, hurried ponytails at Prada, shaggy cuts at Kenzo, fuzzy waves at Stella McCartney, crimped roots at Alexander McQueen, and voluminous flyaways at Chloé, among others.

“It’s the irreverence that makes these messy hairstyles so modern,” said Guido Palau, the stylist responsible for the “messed up” looks at Prada, Miu Miu, and Dolce & Gabbana. “Showing that you haven’t spent time on your hair gives it a casual vibe that’s always very appealing.”

But don’t be deceived by the effortless appearance. While the chicest messy hair might suggest a laid-back attitude, it’s not about looking lazy. Instead, it’s meant to portray a woman in a hurry, whose life is too exciting to waste time in front of the mirror. She’s the type who, after dancing all night, heads straight to the office—a free-spirited visionary who doesn’t feel pressured to conform to society’s strict beauty standards. In short, her messy hair isn’t a reflection of her being a mess; it’s an expression of her unique charm.

The look is “wildly disheveled, yet still beautiful and feminine,” Palau explains, noting that messy hair “makes us question what beauty means when it doesn’t match our idea of perfection. Who gets to decide what’s truly beautiful? Messy hair always sparks debate.”

To achieve this effortless style, the key is lightness, so use airy mousses and salt sprays. “These products enhance the hair’s natural movement without weighing it down,” says Gill. “The motto is less is more.”

For the relaxed frizz at Chloé, hairstylist Gary Gill followed this routine: texturizing spray, volumizing mousse, a quick blast from the blowdryer, and another spritz of texturizing spray. To finish with an electrified effect, he rubbed a balloon from roots to ends to add static. “The frizz gives a little extra so the style doesn’t look overdone,” Gill notes. “We want it natural—fluffy, not fussy.”

For an at-home version, Palau suggests this simple technique: “Spray your hair with texturizing spray to add body while keeping the movement natural. Then, gently brush the lengths back into the hair to add hold, static, and lift.”
