David Beckham is set to become a knight! The former England captain, who received an OBE in 2003, will be honored in the King’s Birthday Honors list for his contributions to football and British society.
Beckham has had an incredible career, winning six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and a Champions League trophy with Manchester United, as well as league titles with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. Beyond football, he’s a UNICEF ambassador and played a key role in bringing the 2012 Olympics to London.
His wife, Victoria Beckham—who was awarded an OBE in 2017 for her work in fashion—will now become a Lady. The couple have attended many royal events over the years, including state banquets and the weddings of Prince William and Prince Harry.
The King’s Honors celebrate people from all backgrounds for their achievements, service, or bravery. The list is announced twice a year—on New Year’s Day and the King’s birthday (June 14). Others being honored include actor Gary Oldman (knighthood), TV presenter Claudia Winkleman (MBE), former tennis player Virginia Wade (OBE), and actor Adjoa Andoh (MBE).
