Antonio Marras stands out in fashion for his gift of weaving deeply authentic stories. His collection, Flying over Porto Conte with Antoine and Consuelo, is a journey that starts and ends in Alghero, the Sardinian city where his family’s roots lie. “This land is an endless well of inspiration, always giving us stories to tell,” the designer says.
The collection imagines a poetic reunion: Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the famed French writer and pilot, spent his last months in Alghero. Marras envisioned the aviator’s wife, Consuelo Suncín-Sandoval Zeceña de Gómez, flying to join him in the same plane he once used.
Consuelo was a Salvadoran writer, painter, and sculptor who studied art in San Francisco. In Mexico, she met Diego Rivera; in Paris, she mingled with artists like André Breton, Marcel Duchamp, and Picasso. Salvador Dalí was a close friend, and in the U.S., her home welcomed stars like Ingrid Bergman and Greta Garbo. She was the muse behind The Little Prince, and here, Marras imagines the wardrobe she’d bring to a windswept island.
The collection blends romantic, slightly dandyish femininity—think embroidered pinstripes, damask, and plaid cottons; rubberized flowers and weathered leathers; sculpted shapes, hidden pleats, and billowy volumes. Faded denim, kimonos, and sheer fabrics mix with silk faux furs, knits adorned with starry appliqués, and jacquards depicting Alghero’s San Michele dome. Floral patchworks mirror the island’s wild blooms.
The palette mirrors an aerial view of nature—earthy warmth and sky blues stitched together with deep bordeaux.
