Today, Kate Middleton presented the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design to Patrick McDowell, honoring the designer’s sustainable fashion efforts. For the event at London’s 180 Strand, the Princess of Wales chose an olive green suit by Victoria Beckham—a fitting choice given the color’s connection to environmental causes, and another example of her thoughtful wardrobe selections.
“I’m deeply honored to receive this award from Her Royal Highness and to join such an impressive group of past winners,” McDowell said. “My thanks go to Queen Elizabeth II’s lasting legacy, the royal family, and the British Fashion Council for championing British creativity, craftsmanship, and sustainability worldwide. This recognition is incredibly meaningful and gives our circular luxury brand a powerful endorsement.”
This isn’t the Princess of Wales’s first time at the ceremony—she presented the same award to Saul Nash in 2022. Other royals who have handed out the honor include King Charles (who awarded Labrum in 2023), Princess Anne, the Countess of Wessex, and the late Queen Elizabeth II, who famously sat front row at Richard Quinn’s 2018 London Fashion Week show to celebrate the award’s first recipient.
In other fashion news, Conner Ives was named the winner of this year’s BFC X Vogue Fashion Fund award, while the NewGen recipients include Louther, Aletta, The Ouze, Liza Keane, Oscar Ouyang, Octi, and Ewusie.
