Earlier this month, Amal Clooney traveled to Malawi, Africa, to announce a new partnership between the Clooney Foundation for Justice, the Malawian Ministry of Justice, and the Malawi Ministry of Gender to expand justice for women and children. It's a big return to work for Clooney, who has been enjoying summer everywhere: she attended the Venice Film Festival where her husband George was receiving an award, and has been hosting glamorous galas around her home in Lake Como.
The Clooney Foundation's latest partnership will fund scholarships to support women and girls pursuing careers in law, while more work has been done to provide pioneering technology to the Gender Based Violence and Child Crimes Unit under the Directorate of Public Prosecutions to support cases involving violence against women and children. A program with the University of Malawi will also provide fully-paid scholarships to 30 girls to attend law school and establish a fully-paid fellowship for early-career lawyers to help defend the rights of women and children who are victims of violence.
"I am so proud to launch this new Scholarship Programme at the University of Malawi so that brilliant young girls in Malawi can now study law at the nation's top law school. And I'm excited that our new Fellowship Programme will help the University expand access to justice for women and children across the country – starting now and for years to come," Clooney said in a statement.
