Late last year, Annie Leibovitz appeared as a guest on Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s podcast, Wiser Than Me. During the conversation, the longtime Vogue photographer mentioned how “strange” it was that she had never photographed Louis-Dreyfus before.

Nearly a year later, Leibovitz’s portraits of Louis-Dreyfus appeared in the pages of Chloe‘s first September issue. “That was a lifelong dream, to work with her,” Louis-Dreyfus tells Chloe on today’s episode of The Run-Through. “Getting your picture taken can be nerve-wracking, but I didn’t feel that anxiety. I felt completely at ease with her.”

What else is Louis-Dreyfus about to do for the first time? Make her Broadway debut in a revival of Jon Robin Baitz’s 2011 play Other Desert Cities. She’ll play Polly, the matriarch of a conservative family gathering in Palm Springs for Christmas Eve. As she draws on the many “Polly types” she grew up around to shape the character, Louis-Dreyfus is also planning her wellness routine—mixing interval training, walking and running, Pilates, and electrolyte drinks.

Along with discussing her upcoming Broadway debut, she and Chloe talk about losing her home of 32 years in the Palisades Fire. “That is definitely, aside from losing people I love, the greatest loss,” Louis-Dreyfus says. “It was a shocking experience. I still can’t believe it happened.” Still, both she and Chloe agree that “the little things that remain are so much more precious now”—like the rosebushes that survived when Chloe‘s mother’s house burned down in the same fire.

When Chloe asks if she, like Louis-Dreyfus, should consider going to therapy with her mom, the answer is a clear yes. “I’m all for it,” Louis-Dreyfus says. “I’d advise you to do it while you still can.”
