While looking at a pile of leftover yarn in his mother Alejandra Alonso Rojas’s studio, her son Alonso—then around four years old—asked two simple but important questions: “Mommy, what are you making with these?” and “Will you make me something?” That was the designer’s lightbulb moment. Knowing the pile of yarn would only keep growing, she created a line of locally hand-knit cashmere sweaters for children aged 18 months to 6 years. The collection includes three styles: a button-front cardigan with patch pockets, a crewneck, and a raglan-sleeve pullover that buttons at the left shoulder. Colors range from bold brights like Klein blue to classic neutrals. “I love these silhouettes. They aren’t too complicated. Sometimes it’s about the material, the color. Less is more,” says Rojas.

Launching this Thursday in her physical and online boutiques, the line reflects the brand’s commitment to responsible design. Made from excess and development yarns, along with unused buttons from main collections, the sweaters are limited edition but will continue as materials become available.

The best part? The Alonso collection is kid-approved, with its namesake helping shape the campaign. “When I started working with Alonso on the shoot, he said, ‘I want to be in the campaign, but I don’t want to be alone. Let’s make a list of friends, and bring toys, a guitar, and my soccer ball,’” Rojas recalls. She styled the 21 children—friends and family—who gathered in her studio for the photos. “It was a very intense day,” she says, “but we had a really good time.”
