Who will perform at the 2026 Oscars?
In an unusual and controversial move, the Oscars producers have announced that only two of the Best Original Song nominees will be performed live: the hit “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters and the powerful “I Lied to You” from Sinners. This means the other nominated songs—“Train Dreams” from Train Dreams (by Nick Cave and Bryce Dessner), “Dear Me” from the documentary Diane Warren: Relentless, and “Sweet Dreams of Joy” from the opera documentary Viva Verdi!—will not be performed.
According to the producers, the two chosen songs “played a defining role in [their films’] global cultural impact and audience connection this year. Given the limited broadcast time, the addition of our casting Oscar, and our goal of creating a fast-paced, entertaining, and cohesive show, we are focusing the live performances on two musical moments this year: Sinners and KPop Demon Hunters. These segments are designed to honor how music helped these stories resonate worldwide.”
More details were later shared: Disney announced that the Sinners performance “will explore the role music plays in the film’s storytelling, translating it into a cinematic live moment onstage. Miles Caton and Raphael Saadiq will perform the Oscar-nominated song ‘I Lied to You,’ joined by Misty Copeland, Eric Gales, Buddy Guy, Brittany Howard, Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram, Jayme Lawson, Li Jun Li, Bobby Rush, Shaboozey, and Alice Smith.” The KPop Demon Hunters segment “will begin with a fusion of traditional Korean instrumentalists and dance, celebrating the folklore and cultural inspiration behind the film. As part of this, Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami—the singing voices behind HUNTR/X—will perform the Oscar-nominated song ‘Golden.’”
Every nominated song, however…However, the Oscars’ producers added that each song “will be introduced through a custom package featuring footage from the film it was written for, firmly connecting the song to its cinematic purpose.” They noted, “When fitting, these introductions may also include select behind-the-scenes moments that highlight the songwriting process and creative vision.”
