The first-ever Dogue Competition took America—and the Vogue office—by storm. When we launched the contest, we expected maybe a few thousand entries. That might have been naive, but nothing could have prepared us for what happened next. Within 24 hours, we had tens of thousands of submissions, a viral TikTok, and national news coverage. To be honest, we were both thrilled and slightly panicked—the contest still had nine days left.

At exactly 6 p.m. EST on Friday, August 8, we finally closed submissions. We breathed a small sigh of relief—until we realized we now had to judge 56,749 dog photos. So we did what Vogue does best: divided, conquered, and debated. The entire editorial team, plus some special guest judges (shoutout to WeRateDogs and the Westminster Kennel Club), helped narrow it down to 27 incredible finalists. At this point, we were feeling good—five judges, 27 printed photos laid out like model headshots on the conference table, and 30 minutes to pick one winner. Easy, right?

We were very, very wrong.

Let’s just say we haven’t seen the Vogue team this passionate since the Prada sample sale. There were sharp words, snarky Slack messages, raised voices, and even (almost) tears. No one held back. “I’m devastated by this choice,” one editor declared after we nearly reached a decision. “This one feels more on-brand,” argued another. Trying to ease the tension, someone even offered to switch sides: “I was on the fence—I can change my vote if it helps!”

Honestly, Dogue nearly broke Vogue. With over 50,000 entries, choosing one winner felt impossible. But after hours of debate, tension, and dedication, we finally made our decision. Meet Tango: Vogue’s 2025 Dogue Winner—along with our two perfect runners-up, Lola and Rupurt, whose human shared, “Vogue has been his dream since day one. He’s been manifesting it—truly barking it into existence.”

In the end, it came down to our official criteria: photo composition (50%), the dog’s personality (25%), and sheer “dogueness” (25%). Tango had it all—a striking pose (that leg!), a chic chair framing the shot, and a look that said, “I know I’m a cover girl.” As Vogue’s global design director Parker Hubbard put it, “[Tango] is understated but serving.” This hound had the Vogue “It” factor we were searching for. After all… before it’s in fashion, it’s in Dogue.

So without further ado, meet Tango and his human, Jennifer.
