Does a perfume have to be an exclusif or extrait to last a long time?
Not necessarily. “There’s a new way to describe perfume intensity,” Levy explains. “One of the biggest recent trends is ultra-intense fragrances. As brands create new versions of classic scents, each one gets stronger than the last. Generally, an extrait is a super concentrated formula with the highest percentage of fragrance oil.” That percentage, she says, usually ranges from 20% to 40%. “Even within an extrait, there are different levels of intensity, as exclusifs focus on a specific note or ingredient to add depth.”
How many hours of wear time do long-lasting fragrances have?
Levy explains that a long-lasting fragrance typically lasts about six to eight hours, so the most enduring scents can go up to ten hours or more. But there’s a catch when it comes to whether your perfume really stands the test of time: your nose can go numb. “Most people think their personal fragrances fade faster, but that’s not actually the case,” says Levy. “As we get used to the scents we wear, we tend to notice them less on ourselves, compared to the ones we encounter throughout the day or evening.”
