Continuing Zara’s 50th anniversary celebrations, the beloved brand has collaborated with 50 creative icons to launch a special limited collection. This 50-piece lineup—featuring clothing, homeware, and accessories—includes contributions from fashion legends like Kate Moss, Nick Knight, and Steven Meisel. Launching on October 6, the collection will also feature reissued archival designs from Anna Sui and fragrances by Fabien Baron.
Each item is designed as a collector’s piece, reflecting the personal style of its creator. Cindy Crawford recreated a bodysuit and denim shorts inspired by her iconic ’90s look. Narciso Rodriguez revived a dress from his Spring 2003 collection, now available for under $250. All proceeds from the Zara 50 project will support the non-profit Women’s Earth Alliance and charities chosen by each participant.
How did Zara convince so many industry stars to join? For most, it was an easy decision. Supermodel Linda Evangelista told Vogue Runway, “Oh my god, the list of the 50. And I made the cut. What an honor. There’s the most incredible talent on the list: Marc Newson, Norman Foster…” Many creators shared her enthusiasm, with several noting their friendship with Inditex Chairperson Marta Ortega Perez. Affection for Zara, now a 50-year fashion staple, also played a key role.
Below, Anna Sui, Linda Evangelista, Guido Palau, Karlie Kloss, and Ludovic de Saint Sernin share their favorite Zara memories and insights into their designs.
Anna Sui
How did you get involved with the Zara 50 Creators project?
It was such an honor to receive that email inviting me to participate. I had met Marta when I visited Spain for the Steven Meisel exhibition, which was phenomenal, so I was absolutely thrilled to hear from them.
Can you recall a favorite Zara item or shopping memory?
It was the Meisel collection. The boutique was so cool, and the clothes perfectly captured Steven’s style—I remembered those pieces from his personal wardrobe over the years. It was the epitome of cool, with leather, dark flannel plaid, jeans, and great boots and shoes. It launched during show season, so I rushed there and tried to grab as much as I could from the collection.
Your Zara 50 Creators look is based on an archival piece. How did you decide which one to reference?
We wanted something iconic. When people think of Anna Sui, they often picture the schoolgirl look. So I created a playful, sexy version—a tight spandex schoolgirl dress with a white collar and cuffs. It includes a garter belt with stockings and a fun belt with black plastic charms on a chain that sits on the hip. There are lots of playful details.
Nicole Phelps recently noted a resurgence of interest in your work among younger audiences. Given that vintage pieces can be expensive, how do you feel about younger generations having more accessible ways to own your designs?
I’m excited about it. This dress is something they can embrace and wear for the next 20 years. It’s a classic black shirt dress with a white collar and cuffs, and you can style it in different ways with accessories.
Linda Evangelista

How did you get involved in the Zara 50 Creators project?
I received a beautifully written letter from Marta. My first thought was, ‘I have a million ideas!’ But then I had to choose just one, which was the hardest part—deciding what I wanted to showcase. It was also wonderful that part of our agreement included them donating to a charity of our choice. I selected Save the Elephants and Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.
Can you recall a favorite Zara item or shopping memory?
When I buy something, I keep it forever. I rewear my clothes repeatedly. I must say, there are many pieces from the Steven Meisel collection I will never part with. One is a gray and black flannel shirt—I wish I had a second one. I also have a beautiful, oversized Steven Meisel scarf that I keep draped over one of my chairs.
How did you decide to create a bathrobe as your item?
I used to have a similar item years ago that eventually got moth-eaten. That was my inspiration, but I wanted it to be useful beyond just my home. Plus, packing in winter is difficult. In summer, you can fit your entire wardrobe in a suitcase because the clothes are light and thin, like linen. But in winter, you have to limit yourself to one or two coats. I thought, ‘What if I could take just one coat that does everything?’ That’s where the bathrobe idea came from. For the fabric, I wanted pure luxury, so I was sent beautiful options to choose from. They sent me one and said, ‘Don’t focus on the fabric, just look at the color,’ since I was aiming for a beautiful charcoal. But I asked, ‘What is this fabric?’ It was cashmere with a bit of wool, which I chose because the wool adds coziness and body.
How will you be styling your cashmere robe?
I’m just going to live in it.

Guido Palau
How did you get involved in the Zara 50 Creators project?
I feel like I’ve been part of the Zara family for many years. I’ve collaborated with them on various levels as a hairdresser, working on their campaigns and other projects. I also worked with them on their new haircare line, so we have a special relationship.
Can you recall a favorite Zara item or shopping memory?
I have great memories of visiting their head offices in A Coruña 20 years ago when we first started shooting together. We shared wonderful times and had fantastic lunches—they’ve always been so generous with great food.
Tell us about your items for the project.
We’ve created so many beautiful hair images over the years, and I thought it would be great to compile them into a keepsake book. I worked with Baron and Baron on the book and also included a fun element: a wig hairpiece that you can cut out and frame, like a quirky art piece. Each wig is hand-cut and numbered, with a style that’s very much my own—it has a punk element to it. They’re all unique, with a punchy, Warhol-esque feel.

Karlie Kloss
How did you get involved in the Zara 50 Creators project?
Marta has been a friend for years, and I deeply admire her vision. When she asked me to be part of this project, it felt like a personal way to celebrate such a milestone. I love seeing how different and personal each person’s designed item is.
Can you recall a favorite Zara item or shopping memory?
I’ve loved Zara for as long as I can remember, but I have to say, I now have a whole new appreciation for their incredible kids’ apparel.
Why did you choose a dopp kit for your item?
I’ve always been a bag lady—If you ask anyone who knows me, they’ll tell you that I have bags within my bag, stocked with every snack or charger you could possibly need. That’s why I couldn’t think of anything more essential to create and share than a fun little dopp kit for everyday travel and life.
What’s inside your “In Kloss of Emergency” bag?
Everything you might need: gum, a sewing kit, a notebook, kids’ snacks, lip balm, Estée Lauder Double Wear concealer, Good Girl travel-size perfume, hair ties, Band-Aids, sanitizer, and sunglasses (usually two pairs). My kids also love sneaking in lollipops and little race cars.

How did you get involved in the Zara 50 Creators project?
I was invited to the Irving Penn retrospective that Zara hosted last year in A Coruña, where I met Marta. I really liked her—she’s such an incredible woman, and it was a beautiful event.
Can you recall a favorite Zara item or shopping memory?
I love their home collection—I have a lamp from it that I use every day at home. That’s actually one of the reasons I decided to design a chair. I also adored their collection with Vincent Van Duysen.

How did you decide on your item?
I had never designed furniture before, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to try something new. Zara has such a recognizable identity, but when you see the chair, you’ll also know it’s me. Working with the Zara team on the development and creative process was amazing. They even purchased a machine specifically to create beautiful hand stitches, and it was a truly incredible experience to design this piece.
Where will you be keeping your Zara collectors item?
My office isn’t the prettiest just yet, but once it is, this chair will definitely be one of the first pieces in there. I’d love to have a set of two in my house, and I’m excited for my friends to get some too.
The collection will be available to shop on Monday, October 6th, on Zara.com.
