Just months after Polin’s happy ending, Bridgerton has already chosen its next leading man: the charming, artistic, and pansexual Benedict, played by Luke Thompson.

Netflix announced the news with a video highlighting Benedict’s best moments so far, followed by a scene of Thompson in casual clothes, script in hand, opening his hotel room door. He’s told, “I hear we’re fitting you for a suit,” to which he grins and replies, “It’s for the masquerade ball.”

According to the official description, the fourth season will focus on the bohemian second son Benedict. While his older and younger brothers are happily married, Benedict is reluctant to settle down—until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball.

Led by showrunner Jess Brownell and executive producer Shonda Rhimes, the eight-episode season will be based on the third book in Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series, An Offer From a Gentleman. (Fans had expected Benedict’s romance to be the focus of Season 3, but Penelope and Colin’s love story from the fourth book, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, was moved up instead.) In the novel, Benedict falls for Sophie Beckett, the daughter of an earl who has been kept out of society and forced to work as a housemaid by her cruel stepmother. After Sophie sneaks into Lady Bridgerton’s masquerade ball, she and Benedict share a Cinderella-meets-Romeo & Juliet moment. When she flees, he vows to find her no matter what.

Playing the newly named Sophie Baek is Australian actor Yerin Ha, known for her roles in Paramount+’s Halo and HBO’s Dune: Prophecy.

She won’t be the only new face this season. Katie Leung, who played Cho Chang in the Harry Potter films, will appear as Lady Araminta Gao, a fabulous and outspoken widow with two daughters entering the marriage market. Michelle Mao will play Rosamund Li, Araminta’s beautiful eldest daughter who has her eye on Benedict, and Isabella Wei will portray Posy Li, Rosamund’s unlucky younger sister. Meanwhile, Emma Naomi as Alice Mondrich and Hugh Sachs as Brimsley have been promoted to series regulars.

“Benedict has always been a little lost—or free, depending on your perspective,” Thompson said after the announcement. “Now he’s trying to find something more solid in himself. His identity has been uncertain, but it doesn’t seem to bother him. He’s figuring it out.” Brownell agreed, adding, “Season three shows him exploring different sides of himself. He feels things deeply, and it was important for him to experience life fully before settling down. He has big appetites, and we wanted to see him live big before committing. I’m excited for his journey in season four.”

So are we. Check out the first trailer and sneak peeks below, and mark your calendars: the first four episodes arrive on January 29, 2026, with the second half following on February 26.
