After months of speculation, it’s official: That eye-catching diamond ring Dua Lipa has been showing off on Instagram is indeed her engagement ring from Callum Turner. “Yeah, we’re engaged,” she confirmed to British Vogue. “It’s very exciting.” The Masters of the Air actor had the ring custom-made for the singer with input from her closest friends and sister. “I’m obsessed with it—it’s so me,” Dua shared. “It’s wonderful to know the person you’ll spend your life with understands you so well.”
Dua’s ring—reportedly an 18-carat yellow gold band with a two-carat diamond—is part of a growing trend for 2025. “The move away from delicate bands and traditional claw settings toward chunkier designs reflects a desire for rings that feel both modern and wearable,” says London jeweler Kitty Fuller, known for her bold Kitty Joyas creations.
As personal style becomes more eclectic, classic solitaire rings are losing ground. “I love the bold, sculptural look of these rings,” says fellow London jeweler Jessie Thomas. “They feel unique—a stylish statement that still feels timeless.”
Though chunky rings might seem like a fresh trend, their roots trace back to the Victorian era. “The stone is set directly into the band rather than held by prongs, creating a smooth surface,” Thomas explains. “It’s a subtler way to showcase a larger gem while making it practical for daily wear. The design has always been popular for its durability and understated elegance.”
Today, wearers are putting a contemporary spin on the style. “Dua’s ring, with its half-set diamond and open sides, feels very modern,” Thomas notes. Fuller, who wears her own chunky engagement ring (unintentionally designed by herself), has noticed more clients choosing colored gemstones alongside diamonds. “While diamonds remain the top choice, people are increasingly open to adding colored stones to reflect their personality or repurpose family heirlooms,” she says.
For those considering a chunky ring, Fuller recommends trying styles first. “I always tailor the design to suit the wearer’s hand and finger size,” she advises. “Once you find the right fit, choose something that feels authentically you—not just trendy.”
Above all, simplicity wins. “Focus on a beautiful stone and comfort,” Fuller adds. “This is a piece you’ll wear forever, so it should bring joy every day.”
