The moment is here. While “Brat summer” may have peaked and been endlessly memorialized last year, we’re now facing an impending “Brat winter.” The Moment—an original concept from Charli XCX—is set for release on January 31, 2026. Produced by A24 and written and directed by Aidan Zamiri, the film is a mockumentary chronicling a fictionalized version of Charli’s explosive summer 2024. It features cameos (hello, Kylie!), real tour footage, and plenty of strobe lights. The official trailer has now arrived.

Of course, The Moment is just one of Charli’s recent ventures. Over the past 18 months, she has composed the soundtrack for a highly anticipated Wuthering Heights adaptation, launched a Substack, and gotten married.

Here’s everything we know so far about Charli XCX’s The Moment

Is there a trailer for The Moment?
Yes! The first full-length trailer debuted on December 11. The just-over-two-minute clip opens with Charli on stage, dancing and strutting before pulling down the acid-green Brat backdrop. “Don’t you think the whole ‘keep having a Brat summer!’ thing is a bit cringe?” she asks from a sofa while filming sponsored Brat-related content.

“How do we keep this Brat thing going?” asks label executive Arielle Dombasle. The trailer then cuts to Charli posing with Brat-branded credit cards, fans tearfully thanking her, and glimpses of rehearsals, interviews, and sterile dressing rooms—all in a hyper-edited haze. One standout moment shows Charli screaming in frustration at Tim (played by Jamie Demetriou) while lighting a cigarette. Elsewhere, stage and mannequin malfunctions leave Charli’s character watching in fear. Is it a bad omen, or just another day in the music industry?

The trailer also highlights the glamour of her inner circle and the celebrities drawn to her spotlight, including Kylie Jenner, Hailey Gates, and Rachel Sennott. Kylie even offers some sage advice: “The second people are getting sick of you, that’s when you need to go even harder!”

What is The Moment about?
The film loosely follows a rising pop star grappling with “the complexities of fame and industry pressure” as she approaches her arena tour debut. As seen in the teaser and trailer, Charli (playing herself) is shooting a concert movie funded by Amazon, directed by the haughty Alexander Skarsgård, who encourages her to step into an oversized clipper lighter prop that is set on fire.

The title itself is a triple entendre, almost parodying the idea of “being the moment”—an irresistible yet faintly absurd notion for any musician chasing stardom, suggesting a single peak before burnout or the inevitable comedown. As Charli told Vanity Fair, “I not only know that this won’t last forever, I’m also really interested in the fact that it doesn’t.” The film is deeply meta, exploring a pop star riding the wave of a cultural phenomenon while confronting its limited shelf life.

Judging by the trailer, the movie won’t be a straightforward commentary on fame. Instead, it seems more interested in the strange in-between spaces: the blurry hours backstage, uncomfortable silences during glam sessions, and having a paid team around you instead of real friends.

Who is in The Moment?
The cast includes a mix of friends, industry figures, and it-girls: Alexander Skarsgård, Kylie Jenner, Rachel Sennott, Rosanna Arquette, Kate Berlant, Hailey Benton Gates, Arielle Dombasle, and Jamie Demetriou. Also featured are Mel Ottenberg, Tish Weinstock, Michael Workéyè, Shygirl, and Isaac Powell.

The Moment is directed by Aidan Zamiri, who also co-wrote the script with Charli.Charli XCX and Bertie Brandes have been close collaborators on the Brat project. Zamiri’s work earned the 2024 UK Music Video Awards for Video of the Year and Best UK Pop Video for “360,” as well as the 2025 MTV Video Music Award for Video For Good for “Guess.”

When will The Moment be released?
The Moment will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, alongside two other films featuring Charli: Olivia Wilde’s The Gallerist and Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex. It will open in theaters worldwide on January 30.

Call it Brat winter, call it Charli’s auteur era—call it whatever you like. The Moment is almost here.
