When brother-sister duo Billie Eilish and Finneas aren’t busy recording albums or performing live together, they can often be found making music even in their downtime—something they’ve been doing a lot this fall. “We’re in serious album mode right now,” Eilish said over a Zoom call last week. “We’ve been making a lot of music, and just hanging out with each other and our dogs.” (Which means, yes, there may be new music on the way.) This week, however, the pair are stepping outside of music, their core practice, to reveal a brand new creative project: a new collection of jewelry—including earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings—that they co-designed, releasing today, made in partnership with the jewelry label John Hardy. Even better, they’re sustainably-minded, all made of repurposed materials and lab-grown diamonds. Finneas and Billie Eilish wearing their new John Hardy pieces. Photo: Courtesy of John Hardy Eilish and Finneas first began working with John Hardy last year, as both faces and creative collaborators for the JH Lovestruck collection—but they felt this year was the right moment to step up their involvement by creating striking designs of their own. “There was a thought that, down the road, we’d do a collection, but there was no pressure for it,” says Eilish. They worked with the label’s creative chairman, Reed Krakoff, to bring their visions to life. “Billie and Finneas each have their own incredibly strong sense of personal style,” says Krakoff of working with the two stars. “Both were willing to go against type: Billie is known for her oversized, edgy looks, but she was drawn to delicate flowers. Finneas seems more understated and laid-back, but he’s very confident and considered in his taste.” “This earring is cool because there’s no backing,” says Eilish. “It’s got this long, dainty soft chain with a cute little flower at the end. You can put the chain through your ear hole or just have it dangling.” Photo: Courtesy of John Hardy “I’m excited to wear the Wildflower rings,” says Finneas. “The petals on the rings are very satisfying.” Photo: Courtesy of John Hardy The final result—titled the Billie Eilish and Finneas Collection, ranging from $195 to $2,400—is divided into two sub-collections. The first is titled Wildflower—a play on Eilish’s hit song—and revolves around daintier floral motifs meant for everyday wear. So intricate pendant necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings all feature intricate flowers carved out of reclaimed sterling silver, some punctuated with sparkling lab-grown diamonds. “The Wildflower-inspired collection is what we would wear day to day,” says Eilish. Finneas adds, “I love the idea of somebody wanting the ring because they think it’s a beautiful ring—it’s not merchandise, per se. We wanted to make objects that are just appealing on their own.” Close-ups of the pieces. Think sculptural chain links and spherical hardware that make more of a statement, all designed to be layered and mixed. Many of these pieces evolved around favorite pieces that Eilish and Finneas have tested over the past year. “I was on tour during the first several months of working on this, so I would have John Hardy send certain pieces that I could wear on stage, to see what would feel good,” says Eilish. “I wanted something that felt like it had a presence, but wasn’t hurting my neck while I was jumping around, or getting stuck on stuff.” You didn’t even know it, but Finneas and Eilish were sneakily wearing the collection for many of their recent performances, and it was taking this more hands-on approach that really helped cultivate the assortment, says the duo. “We liked seeing how [the pieces] actually felt in”Our fingers—holding bracelets and necklaces in our hands,” says Finneas. “It all feels really wonderful: It’s not too heavy, but not too light.” “You can wear the Wildflower rings stacked or completely separately. There’s a lot of versatility,” says Eilish. “The necklace from the Screwball collection is so ideal to me—I would wear it off and on stage.”

Finneas, for one, favors a simpler wardrobe these days, so he wanted jewelry that popped and made a statement. “I’ve gotten more and more minimalistic in my taste in clothing and jewelry, and the role of jewelry becomes even more obvious if you’re wearing a very low-profile outfit,” he says. Eilish, meanwhile, says she has pared back her signature edgy look recently, so she wanted to emphasize daintier pieces that could make a subtle impact in her day-to-day wardrobe. “When I was a teenager, I wore 10 rings every single day—I would wear so much jewelry,” Eilish says. “Now, I rarely wear jewelry in my day-to-day life.” “The satisfying part about designing products is you [can create] products that you’ve dreamed about having,” says Finneas. “Billie and I both have specific tastes. We came in with a lot of requests and needs.”

Both Eilish and Finneas say they knew from the start that whatever they created would have to be sustainably-minded. “Sustainability is such an important part of our lives, and [John Hardy’s] beliefs really aligned with what we prioritize and focus on,” says Eilish, who has supported various environmental and social causes during her own tours. In using reclaimed silver and gold, they were surprised at just how easy it was to implement eco-friendly approaches into the manufacturing process. “We’ve been taught to accept that some necessary evils are going on in manufacturing, and I don’t agree with that,” says Finneas. For Eilish, learning about the pros of lab-grown diamonds versus traditional sourcing was eye-opening. “They’re molecularly identical to a tee—yet one is hard on the environment and people, and one is made in a lab,” says Eilish. “It’s also unbelievably less expensive. I still hear people say, ‘Ew, lab-grown,’ and it’s like, ‘You would never know the difference!'” “John Hardy is very focused on their pieces lasting for a long time,” says Finneas. “We would be like, ‘Can we make this even thinner,’ and they’d argue for something not being as breakable.”

The brother-sister duo hopes the line will resonate with all kinds of people—including both fans and non-fans alike. “I love the idea of people with such different personal styles to Billie or me wearing these same bracelets or rings, and feeling just as comfortable and confident in it,” says Finneas. “Billie has made a career out of wearing things that almost nobody else could pull off—there was a period when she cut up an IKEA bag and wore it—and you may not wear a repurposed IKEA bag as an outfit, but these rings can look great on you.” So, with this experience, have Finneas and Eilish caught the design bug? Should we be expecting more projects—perhaps even clothing—coming down the line? Consider it a strong maybe—however, they say it’s just jewelry for now. “We’re definitely working on more things with John Hardy, potentially,” says Eilish. “I’m not really a planner: I like to move through life ready for whatever the hell is about to happen!” “You don’t have to be a fan of Finneas and I to like the je”Jewelry,” says Eilish. “You can wear it because you think it’s beautiful, without the pressure of, ‘Oh, are you even a real fan?'”
