If you’ve fallen for a paisley print dress, slouchy boots, or a crochet bikini, you probably already know that boho is this summer’s hottest trend. And it’s not just about clothes—the easiest way to channel the look might just be through your hair.

According to Francesca Inverarity, hairstylist at The Hair Bros, this season’s boho hair blends ’60s and ’70s vibes with a touch of early 2000s grunge. “Think Joni Mitchell and Jane Birkin’s wispy, grown-out bangs mixed with Olsen twin waves.”

If that sounds like your style, here are six simple ways to give your hair a bohemian twist this season.

### Texture is key
The secret to boho hair is its effortless, undone texture. Hairstylist Luke Hersheson suggests spritzing damp hair with a salt spray for grit and a messy finish. “Let it dry naturally,” he says. “Then take random sections from the top layers and curl them with a wide-barrel iron, twisting as you go and leaving the ends loose for a relaxed look.” Finish by tousling the curls with your fingers and misting lightly with texturizing spray.

Short on time? Hairstylist Charlotte Mensah recommends twisting or braiding slightly damp hair before bed. “In the morning, you’ll have soft waves and natural curls—just add a few extra twists with a curling iron if needed. The key is keeping it loose and lived-in, not too polished.”

Another trick? “Tuck your hair behind your ears as it dries,” says hairstylist Halley Brisker. “When you let it out, you’ll get subtle bends around the face—perfect for movement and ease.”

### Go for a “shattered” cut
“Soft, face-framing layers are a must,” says Brisker. “Think feathered pieces starting at the jawline, blending down to the ends.” For inspiration, he points to Sienna Miller, the ultimate boho muse. “She nails that effortless, undone look.” To boost texture, ask for shattered layers—a technique where hair is cut at varying lengths for natural volume—but avoid going too short so it keeps its flow.

### Braids with a boho twist
Few styles capture the bohemian spirit like a loose, lived-in braid. Brisker suggests starting with a French braid on damp hair (spritz with sea salt spray first for grip). Once dry, gather hair at the nape and braid loosely, securing the end with a clear elastic.

“Gently tug at the braid to loosen it,” says Brisker. “You want it to look textured and organic—not too neat.” For extra boho flair, try mini braids around the face or on top of the head, like Sienna Miller’s signature style.

### Boho bangs
Lightweight and textured, boho bangs are similar to curtain bangs but even softer. “They should be sheer enough to see through,” says Inverarity. “The goal is a light, airy shape that doesn’t feel too heavy.”Thick but tapered at the sides, skimming the cheekbones. For a dreamy finish, ask your stylist to add a few longer, face-framing pieces around the ears and lips. If the fringe starts to separate after a couple of days, embrace the undone texture instead of reaching for dry shampoo. “Spritz with water to reshape, then let it air dry for natural movement,” she suggests, using soft clips to hold the hair in place as it dries and prevent too much bounce.

Go for effortless color
There’s no one shade that defines boho hair—it’s more about a lived-in vibe, says colorist Nicola Clarke, known for Kate Moss’s sun-kissed look. “Bleached-out ends with lighter pieces around the face always feel boho to me—it’s that undone, effortless color,” she explains. Even deeper brunettes can work with slightly lighter ends and a soft wave for that relaxed feel.

Try boho braids
Searches for boho braids have surged over 5,000% on Google in the past month, and stylist Charlotte Mensah has seen the trend firsthand in her salon. A modern take on traditional braids, boho braids have a loose, undone finish with waves and curls left free at the ends for a floaty look. “I recently did Senegalese twists, then unraveled some sections for a mix of braided and loose curls—it’s a big trend right now,” she says.

The style’s appeal? Ease and aesthetics. “People want hair that looks effortless, not too polished,” Mensah explains. “Boho braids are quicker to do than traditional braids, lighter since they use fewer extensions, and versatile—wear them down or in a bun.”

To keep them fresh, focus on hydration: “Use a leave-in conditioner, nourishing oil, and curl cream for softness. Moisture is key—try wrapping hair in a silk scarf overnight to lock it in.”
