Sydney Sweeney has a clear love for biopics. Last year, she announced a film about boxing champion Christy Martin, and we’ve seen her training hard for the role. Then in October, another exciting project was revealed—a biopic about actress Kim Novak, directed by Colman Domingo.
Titled Scandalous, the film will focus on Novak’s romance with 1950s singer and Rat Pack legend Sammy Davis Jr., played by Industry actor David Jonsson. This marks Domingo’s directorial debut, fresh off co-chairing the 2025 Met Gala.
At the Met Gala, Sweeney gave a glimpse of her role, wearing a shimmering black Miu Miu gown inspired by Novak’s look in The Demon of Women (1967). The dress, with its circular neckline and brooch detail, even echoed Joan Crawford’s style in The Bride Wore Red (1937).
According to Variety, Domingo plans to start filming this year after Sweeney wraps Euphoria Season 3.
Novak and Davis Jr. met in 1956 on Steve Allen’s talk show. A year later, Davis visited the set of Vertigo to pursue her. Despite backlash over their interracial relationship—including pressure from Novak’s producer, Harry Cohn—they grew close. Novak later told The Hollywood Reporter (2021), “When someone tells me not to do something, it makes me want to do it even more.” Though she insisted their bond wasn’t romantic, rumors swirled after a 1958 column claimed they were engaged. Both later married others—Novak, now 91, and Davis, who died in 1990 at 64.
Stay tuned for Scandalous, as Domingo and Sweeney bring this story to life.
