“I’m in Miami,” Victoria Beckham tells me during our call on a humid early summer afternoon. She’s in work mode, juggling back-to-back calls and product testing. “It’s such a busy time right now that the weather doesn’t really matter to me—I’m indoors working anyway.”

I’m among the first to speak with Beckham about what might be her most anticipated launch yet: The Foundation Drops, a product she has been developing and secretly wearing for years. It’s not what I—or anyone else, I’m sure—expected.

The formula breaks from tradition: instead of a heavy tube or pigmented balm, it’s a lightweight, shake-to-mix liquid. It feels innovative not because it’s bold, but because it’s minimal. “We created The Foundation Drops for everyday makeup minimalists like me,” she says. “The formula melts into the skin for a naturally flawless look and nourishes with Augustinus Bader’s TFC8 technology as you wear it. This foundation feels like nothing but does everything.”

Beckham emphasizes that this has been a long time coming. “When I started Victoria Beckham Beauty, I actually wanted to begin with a foundation,” she recalls. “But I realized I wasn’t ready for it. I wanted something truly innovative that hadn’t been done before. Many brands claim to include skincare science in their foundations, but I wanted to do it meaningfully.”

She pauses to make an important point. “I’ve struggled with my skin my whole life,” she says. “When I say I used to have bad skin, there was a time when my face was covered in acne. I know how it feels to lack confidence because of your skin.” That insecurity shaped her standards today. “I remember testing a different foundation while doing the school run and feeling so self-conscious because it was so heavy—I didn’t want to look the other moms in the eye. It felt like wearing a mask. I want my foundation to give me confidence and perfect my complexion without that heavy feeling. That mask-like look is very old-fashioned.”

This focus on breathability and a natural finish led her to the drops—featherlight, buildable, and modern.

The Foundation Drops join a complexion line that already includes the Concealer Pen and extend Beckham’s collaboration with stem cell scientist Professor Augustinus Bader, whose skincare line has become a defining feature of Victoria Beckham Beauty. “I like to partner with the best. For me, that’s Professor Bader—I can’t compete with him, nor do I want to. I want to collaborate, always with the best.”

Like her other complexion products, the Drops blend makeup and treatment. At the core is Bader’s TFC8 complex, which delivers nutrients to skin cells to aid renewal, along with echinacea extract to plump, spilanthes flower to smooth, and olive leaf extract to support the skin barrier. “I can have a self-care day and still wear my foundation,” Beckham says, “because it’s also treating my skin.”

As a beauty director, I’m usually skeptical of hype—but having tried the foundation myself, I can confirm it lives up to her claims. The texture is remarkable: thin and fluid, yet buildable to a polished coverage. It looks less like makeup and more like well-rested skin, holding up through London’s summer heatwaves and rainstorms.

The Foundation Drops launch in 19 flexible shades, each designed to adapt to a wide range of skin tones and undertones. Beckham prefers applying it with her own brushes, which launched earlier this spring. As a subtle hint to fans that a foundation was coming soon—though she mentions it can also be pressed in with fingertips for a sheer finish. For Beckham, this launch goes beyond product innovation—it’s about redefining her own relationship with her skin. “I’ve struggled with my skin my whole life… and I know how it feels to lack confidence. That’s why this product is so personal to me—I want other women to finally feel seen and understood.”

She adds: “When I say it’s been a lifetime in the making, I mean it. I started wearing makeup at a very young age because I was so self-conscious about my acne—and I’ve been searching ever since for something that truly improves the look and feel of skin. This is it.”
