Some people are born with freckles, but if you weren’t, you can still get the look with freckle pens. These pens let you add tiny beauty marks—either enhancing the ones you have or creating new ones. Celebrity makeup artist Kasey Spickard explains that freckle pens are more sheer than regular liquid eyeliner, giving a subtle, natural finish. “It’s like the difference between a lip stain and a lip liner—freckle pens are less opaque,” Spickard tells Vogue.
Want freckles scattered across your cheeks? Freckle stamps let you apply them quickly with just a few presses. Or, if you already have natural beauty marks, a precision-tip freckle pen can help define them, adding dimension to your features.

### Everything You Need to Know
What is a freckle pen?
“Freckle pens are different from traditional makeup pens because they have a sheerer formula to mimic natural freckles, unlike eyeliners, which are more pigmented,” says celebrity makeup artist Kasey Spickard. “The formula acts more like a stain, lasting longer than a typical makeup pen. That’s why beauty influencers sometimes use freckle pens as long-wear lip liners or nose contour.”
How to Apply a Freckle Pen
For the most natural sun-kissed look, Spickard recommends applying freckle pen marks after your base makeup—foundation, skin tint, concealer, or tinted moisturizer.
“Lightly dot the pen where freckles naturally appear (nose bridge, cheeks, forehead). Then, gently tap the spots with your ring finger to blend and avoid too much product buildup,” he says. “Using your ring finger softens the freckles, making them look more natural. Repeat until you get the desired density.”
For extra inspiration, Spickard suggests looking at photos of people with natural freckles. To make your freckles last longer, finish with a setting spray.
