Sabrina Carpenter isn’t afraid to take risks. But with less than 48 hours until fashion’s biggest night—the 2025 Met Gala—what’s a girl to do? Slip into her sparkliest, daring dress and own it.

The singer, former Vogue cover star, and Versace’s summer muse was spotted last night (May 3) at the Moda Operandi pre-Met Gala cocktail party at New York’s The Twenty Two Hotel. She wore a figure-hugging, seafoam-blue sequined dress with a sky-high slit, held together by a gold safety pin—naturally, by Versace. A scoop neckline and delicate gold hardware at the shoulders kept the look just secure enough. She paired it with a matching blue Versace La Vacanza mini bag and towering nude Christian Louboutin platforms.

Her hair and makeup stayed true to her signature style: voluminous blonde waves, bold black mascara, and rosy pink blush, with opalescent nails completing the look.

Joining Carpenter at the event were Donatella Versace in a vibrant pink suit, Anne Hathaway in sleek black tailoring, and guests like Ariana DeBose, Laura Harrier, Eva Chen, and Dylan Mulvaney.

Earlier that evening, Carpenter made a surprise cameo on Saturday Night Live during host Quinta Brunson’s opening monologue. Brunson, hosting for the second time, sang a playful ode to being short: “Being short is amazing, being short is just fine. I’m a cheap date ’cause I get wasted off one glass of wine.” After name-dropping fellow “shorties” like Simone Biles, Kendrick Lamar, and Tom Holland, she feigned surprise: “Sabrina, what are you doing here?”

Carpenter quipped, “I mean, you were talking about being short, so I thought I’d stop by,” before joining the musical number. The singer, who was SNL‘s musical guest last May, wore another Versace look: a pink cropped button-up with black piping, paired with a black miniskirt and gold chain belt.

The turquoise hue of her cocktail dress is a proven winner for Carpenter—she wore a similar shade in her Vogue cover shoot, styled by Steven Meisel in custom Dolce & Gabbana.

But does this bold Versace moment hint at her Met Gala look? Only Sabrina and Donatella know for sure.
