“Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” is the next exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, opening on May 10 and running through October 26, 2025, following the Met Gala on May 5. The show will delve into the history of Black dandyism as both a fashion statement and a means of challenging—and reflecting on—social and political change, past and present. This year, expect fewer traditional ball gowns and more emphasis on the Tailored for You dress code, showcasing menswear through the lens of Black dandyism.

According to the Met’s exhibition website, the display will feature garments, accessories, paintings, photographs, and decorative arts from the 18th century to today, framing dandyism as both an aesthetic and a tool for social and political transformation. While the exhibition opens May 10, you can already explore and shop a curated selection of BIPOC-owned brands and their takes on tailoring.
