Gucci Westman never settles, whether in her career or personal life. Eight years after founding her namesake cosmetics line, Westman Atelier, the makeup artist feels more confident than ever. “When it comes to makeup and skincare, I don’t doubt myself—I don’t second-guess,” she says. Her vision is supported by her business partner and husband, David Neville, and a team that shares her passion for the brand’s growth.

“I truly believed there would be an appetite for this kind of offering,” she explains, “because I know there are so many women like me who want to look like a better version of themselves with minimal effort—and to feel some joy in the process. And why not improve your skin along the way?” The more you learn about Westman, the clearer it becomes why her brand connects with women around the world.

Kate Weizman, the brand’s chief marketing officer, describes Gucci herself as the secret ingredient. “You want to be friends with her, you want to be like her,” she says—and through that connection, women eagerly follow her beauty advice. Despite her success and expertise, Westman radiates a warmth that lets her genuinely relate to her audience. “I love making people feel happy and confident,” she shares. “I love interacting with people and seeing their expressions when they look in the mirror after a makeup session. It never gets old.”

Early in her career, working on Vogue shoots with legendary stylist Grace Coddington, Westman became known for creating skin that looked alive—beauty that felt refined, radiant, and fresh, a contrast to the matte, shine-free glamour of the early 2000s. “Instead of piling on a new face, she let my skin breathe, mixing and spot-painting colors onto every imperfection,” Cameron Diaz once remarked. “To this day, no one does skin like Gucci.”

Westman credits her upbringing for her unique approach to skincare. “I grew up in an ashram in California,” she says, noting the spiritual influences in her family, including Hinduism and Buddhism, which emphasized the link between lifestyle and well-being. “That’s why I’ve always been interested in ingredients.” So when she created her own line, she knew it had to be performance-driven. Her standards were clear: no phthalates, parabens, PEGs, mineral oils, or synthetics. She held firm during formulation, even when contract manufacturers pushed back. “Thank goodness I’m so stubborn,” she jokes.

Westman’s high standards come as no surprise. “I don’t let myself down when it comes to our products,” she says. “Nothing is perfect, but it’s pretty excellent.” That’s her goal for Westman Atelier: to pursue excellence, stay adaptable, and listen to her audience. Through her brand, she hopes to create a space where women can share valuable information and lift each other up. Community is her top priority, both in scaling a beauty brand and in life. “A lot of my inspiration comes from how I grew up and from traveling frequently.” These days, she splits her time between upstate New York, Milan (near where many Westman Atelier products are made), Paris, Asia, London, Gothenburg, Stockholm, and Rome—traveling for both work and pleasure.

Her curiosity about other cultures isn’t the only part of her childhood she still embraces; it also shapes how she cares for herself. Wellness, she explains, was woven into her family life. “It was just how we lived—spending time outdoors, meditating, exercising, and eating really well,” she says. “Even if I didn’t always appreciate it at the time, I’ve come to value it so much. I feel lucky to have grown up that way.” Today, this means focusing on strength over aesthetics: “I am quite consistent.””It’s about exercise, how I eat, how I take care of myself, and knowing what I need,” she says.

Let’s take a closer look at what that means.

Strong by Design

Gucci Westman starts her day by setting her alarm 20 minutes early to meditate. After that, she drinks a glass of water and makes breakfast for her three kids. Ideally, she fits in some Pilates or strength training before her meetings, or at least a long walk while wearing light ankle weights and a weighted vest.

At 55, she’s committed to anything that makes her feel strong. “I’m obsessed with bone health,” she says, focusing not only on her workouts but also on her supplements. Each day, she drinks a protein shake and adds electrolytes and creatine, which help her feel sharper. She also uses Cymbiotika’s vitamin C gel sachets, Agent Nateur’s Calm supplement, and Arrae’s MB-1 for metabolic support. Other staples in her cabinet include HealthyCell supplements, omega flaxseed oil, and Bio-K + Drinkable Probiotics. Westman is just as passionate about getting good sleep—for that, she turns to Ocean’s magnesium glycinate.

Skincare Formulated for Sensitivity

“I’m obviously a bit careful about what I use on my skin because of my rosacea and sensitivity,” Westman explains. Fortunately, she has created a skincare line that supports her complexion without causing irritation. After cleansing, she massages in her Skin Activator serum for hydration, Suprême C Vitamin C Concentrate for brightening, and Eye Activator Serum to smooth the under-eye area. She then follows with sunscreen from La Roche-Posay or EltaMD.

Occasionally, she uses Karen Bartov’s Peel & Glow Serum for gentle exfoliation, Typology’s 12% Niacinamide to reduce redness around her nose, and a Yaman facial device to minimize puffiness. Her best advice for skincare is to “know thyself.” She adds, “I love products that are as potent as they are gentle.”

Makeup, Mastered

Westman’s daily makeup routine reflects her professional approach—she likes to feel put together to start her day. After prepping her skin, she applies the Vital Skin Complexion Stick in shade 1 or 2 and the Vital Skincare Concealer in shade L3 under her eyes or on any red areas. She adds warmth with Sun Tone bronzing drops and sweeps a powder blush across her cheeks. For dimension, she uses her Face Trace Contour Stick in the new shade Coco along her nose and hairline, then highlights for an “immediate uplifting touch.”

Once her complexion is set, she moves on to her brows. “I like to keep them dark so I don’t have to worry about them,” she says. “If they get lighter, I use my eyebrow pencil in Slate.” Lips are the final step—Westman never leaves the house without lip liner. Her go-to shades for her Lip Shape Liner are Petal, Je Reve, and Minou. “If I don’t have that, I feel like my lips are disappearing,” she admits.

Westman Atelier’s new Hydrobalm Tinted Lipstick is her latest obsession. Designed for sheer, subtle, buildable color, it’s exactly what she would naturally reach for. “I love to feel like something is improv…”“I’m biting my lip,” she adds. “My lips look younger, they feel younger, and the ingredients are incredibly beneficial.” Inside, hyaluronic acid microspheres and peptides draw moisture into the lips, while botanical butters lock it in, leaving behind a cooling balm texture that feels comfortable. “It’s easy and sophisticated—the kind of thing you just want to wear all the time.”

Hair Without Brass
One thing about Westman: she always keeps her hair color fresh. “I hate when my gray roots grow out or when it turns a little brassy,” she says. “That’s when I really don’t feel great.” To prevent that, she keeps a standing color appointment and washes her hair only once a week, sometimes following with a hair mask. She loves formulas by David Mallett (her preferred colorist in Paris, who also has two New York outposts), along with the Christophe Robin purple mask to neutralize yellow tones. When she isn’t getting a blowout, she uses the JVN Air Dry Cream. “I’m fond of anything that makes my hair a little softer and actually works on frizz.”

Tailored Style
How Westman styles herself depends on the city she’s in. “If I’m in Paris, I’m definitely putting more effort into my look,” she laughs. Overall, what matters most to her is fit, silhouette, and quality. “I don’t see myself as super trendy, but I do like little accents.” Her style leans timeless: a good jean (“If there’s a good jean, I will hunt it down,” she says) or trouser, a belt, cotton T-shirts or a button-down, and a blazer form her uniform. “I’m obsessed with how clothing makes you feel.”
