“America was my big dream,” says Simon Porte Jacquemus, standing in his newly opened Los Angeles flagship store. This marks his second U.S. retail location, following the launch of his two-story townhouse boutique in New York’s SoHo last October. “Jacquemus has always resonated with America from the start,” he explains. “Our first stockist was in California—Opening Ceremony was the first to buy my brand. They sold it in New York and LA, and it just worked.”

Spanning nearly 2,800 square feet with a vaulted ceiling, the space feels so light and open that, despite its bustling Melrose Avenue location, you might briefly imagine yourself in a serene farmhouse in the South of France. “We began searching for a spot two years ago,” Jacquemus shares. “I was fixated on creating a grand salon, like an expansive fitting room—somewhere incredibly inviting, where you’d want to linger with that Provençal charm.” The herringbone floors are distinctly French, though with a twist: inspired by classic Parisian parquet but crafted in stone. “And voilà! We’ve blended both worlds.”

At the heart of the store are two extra-long couches upholstered in sunny yellow linen, already filled with visitors just hours after opening—some waiting for shoes, others creating content, or simply soaking in the ambiance. Throughout the space, accessories are displayed on sleek stone-and-metal tables designed by Jacquemus and his team. “They’re almost identical to the ones in my home,” he says, glancing down with a laugh. “Sometimes I think, Why are my shops better than my house? I told my husband that yesterday!”

The store also features pieces from Jacquemus’s personal art collection, including a playful David Hockney photograph by Peggy Sirota (“It felt right to have him here”), sensual nudes by French painter Maurice Savin (“He’s not widely known, but I adore him”), and two Renoir works—a small engraving and a bronze bather. “Objects matter,” he notes. “They give the store a different energy.”

A curated selection of vintage silver jewelry and chic housewares, like an irresistibly stylish cigarette case, bridges the gap between the menswear, womenswear, and the art. But the standout items might be from his exclusive health capsule collection: a limited-edition Jacquemus yoga mat, jump rope, or insulated cup. The highlight? A set of silver barbells with a cube and sphere on each end. “I’m obsessed with Muscle Beach,” he says, referencing Venice Beach’s iconic outdoor gym.

Next up, Jacquemus plans stores in Miami and seasonal summer shops in Ibiza, Monaco, and Mykonos. “I love summer stores,” he says. “People step out of the pool or off the beach and want to pick something up. They’re in the mood to feel good. I want to express that in my space.”

As Jacquemus walks through the store, fans approach for selfies or to have their Jacquemus books (sold onsite) signed. Outside, the parking lot has been transformed into a “very French” monochrome market with bananas, lemons, and flowers. It truly feels like he’s welcoming guests into his home. “I’ve always dreamed of bringing people together, sharing one big…””He says, ‘Ugh.’ In a charming little shop on Melrose Avenue, his dream has finally become a reality.
