With HBO’s “Industry” returning for its fourth season on January 11, star Myha’la joined Vogue senior editor Marley Marius and fashion writer Hannah Jackson for this Tuesday’s episode of The Run-Through to bring them up to speed on all things Harper Stern.
“The end of Season 3 is very much her saying, ‘I’m going to be my own boss.’ This is the time when she truly breaks away,” Myha’la says. “She’s at the top of her game and she’s pushing harder than she ever has before.”
So, what did that mean for Harper’s hair? “I thought, well obviously it has to be micro braids with human hair,” the actor explains. “It has to be the most expensive, probably the most high-maintenance… and the most elevated version of Harper.”
Great care went into crafting her wardrobe this season, too. Costume designer Laura K. Smith created a power suit to match Harper’s new status. “In that first shot we see, Harper is in a gray three-piece suit. It was custom-designed and custom-made by Laura for Harper,” says Myha’la. “[Laura] said, ‘I want this to be the hero piece for her closet, something she can mix and match.'”
Elsewhere in the conversation, Myha’la takes a trip down memory lane, chatting about fronting a Christian rock band in high school and her lifelong love of musicals. (You’re going to be obsessed with her dream Broadway role.)
“I’m manifesting,” says Myha’la. “I sing everything, but my favorite genre is definitely musical theater. If anyone is looking for a five-foot-one, available, Black baddie who lives in New York, cast me!”
Plus, Myha’la shares how she met her husband, Armando Rivera—her number-one fan. Hear the full interview above.
