The American LGBTQ+ Museum, set to open in New York City in 2027, announced today that fashion designer Michael Kors and his husband, Lance Le Pere, have joined its board of trustees.

“We’re honored to join the board and be part of this historic project,” they said in a statement. “Preserving and celebrating LGBTQ+ history and culture has never been more important. Our community has so many stories to share.”

Construction on the museum’s permanent home started in December 2024 as part of an expansion at the New-York Historical Society on Central Park West. While the building takes shape, the museum has been hosting public events, including its recent traveling exhibition, Queer Justice, created with Lambda Legal to mark the organization’s 50th anniversary.

“We’re so grateful to have Michael and Lance on our board,” said Ben Garcia, the museum’s executive director. “Their deep experience in philanthropy—both locally and globally—will be invaluable. Their leadership, dedication, and generosity will make a real difference.”

Kors and Le Pere are longtime supporters of causes like God’s Love We Deliver—which named its SoHo headquarters after Kors—as well as the United Nations World Food Programme, Roundabout Theatre Company, NYC AIDS Memorial Park, and Lincoln Center Theater, among others.
