What’s the recipe for a Luar pop-up? Intention, spectacle, and above all—attitude.
“I wanted to create a cute New York moment, to give people a chance to come in, try things on, and put together their summer looks,” Raul Lopez explained a few days before the brand’s pop-up opened at the fashion-favorite WSA building.
Inside the ruby-red carpeted space, a world of Luar’s signature style unfolded. A deep purple bedroom showcased bags in various colors and sizes on wall shelves, jewelry glinting on bedside tables beside a row of mirrors, and a meticulously styled Luar outfit draped elegantly across violet sheets—more like an altar than a display.
The pop-up featured Luar’s iconic Ana bags (with special pricing!), past runway looks, timeless ready-to-wear pieces, and a limited-edition tank top with the cheeky phrase: “I talk shit about you in Spanish.” The brand’s first shoe collection was also available—a sleek flat Oxford and an Oxford-inspired mule with a bell heel, both adorned with a bold silver “L” insignia.
At the opening, artist and writer Kim Hastreiter stopped by to support Lopez, trying on looks alongside her shopping companion, her dog Polyester.
“I’m really impressed with everything he’s done. Watching his rise, it’s clear all of New York loves him,” she said before slipping into a dramatic, sharply tailored black overcoat—a piece she took home, naturally.
“I love what’s happening!” Lopez said, taking in the scene. “People are taking pictures, shopping, and bringing the energy.”
The opening night reception, hosted by Beaujangless, featured DJs Kristy Baez, Rae Sada, and Elvin Tavarez—all friends of the brand—spinning a mix of reggaetón and hypnotic house music, keeping the vibe lively as guests moved between trying on clothes and mingling. Two Robbers’ Cara Cara Orange and Sweet Pineapple cocktails flowed as afternoon chatter turned into evening revelry.
Outside, music spilled onto the street as guests compared their finds. “Luar always knows how to make the ambiance pop,” said customer Waldo Baez, who snagged a pair of sunglasses. “I loved experiencing the brand in real life.”
As the night went on, one thing became clear—the real draw wasn’t just the products or the prices, but the thrill of stepping into Luar’s glamorous world. Could this hint at a more permanent retail future?
Lopez laughed. “I won’t say no, and I won’t say yes. I just want to share this world with everyone.”
The Luar Pop-Up at 161 Water Street runs until April 30, 12 p.m.–7 p.m.
