Princess Charlotte is celebrating a special milestone today. To mark her 10th birthday, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a new portrait of their only daughter, captured by Kate Middleton herself. The photo shows Charlotte smiling at the camera while wearing a camouflage jacket and backpack during a trip to England’s scenic Cumbria region. (Sky News reports Kate took the picture using her iPhone.)
“Happy 10th Birthday, Princess Charlotte!” the couple wrote in their Instagram post.
Releasing birthday portraits has become a yearly tradition for the Wales family, with Kate often taking the photos herself—giving them a warm, personal touch. Just last month, they shared an adorable picture of Prince Louis for his seventh birthday, showing the young prince grinning with his two front teeth missing.
But it’s not all celebrations in the royal family right now. Charlotte’s birthday comes as Prince Harry makes headlines for losing his legal challenge over UK security arrangements. In a recent interview, he spoke about wanting to mend ties with his family: “I would love reconciliation,” he said. “There’s no point in fighting anymore. Life is precious.”
Harry also mentioned his father, King Charles, who is battling cancer: “I don’t know how much longer my father has,” he admitted. “He won’t speak to me because of this security issue. But it would be nice to reconcile.”
