For her resort collection, Lafayette 148’s Emily Smith wanted to create something that honored nature. She and her team traveled to the Arctic in search of the Northern Lights, embarking on various adventures across Norway to witness the celestial display. “Seeing them isn’t guaranteed,” Smith explained. “Our first night had a blizzard, so we booked a tour—you have to chase the light.”
And chase it she did, translating the experience into her new collection with holographic details and a dreamy pastel palette. Standout pieces included a delicate gold crackled leather explorer jacket paired with a midi skirt, a cozy beige sweater woven with unexpected tinsel, and garments adorned with starry embellishments like sequins, Swarovski crystals, and buttons. A Northern Lights print in soft pastels—taken directly from Smith’s own photo in Norway—was used for an airy A-line dress layered over a sequin-covered slip, as well as a tailored tan suit with gentle pastel brushstrokes.
“The collection captures the movement of the lights—they’re not static, they dance in the sky. It’s breathtaking,” Smith added. The lineup offers versatile options for every occasion: flowing silk gowns or a modern twist on evening wear with a ballgown skirt paired with a classic knit, alongside practical staples like cashmere ribbed trousers, sturdy cotton “expedition jackets,” and reimagined fair isle sweaters featuring bold color blocks instead of traditional patterns. Each piece is designed for the dynamic lives of her customers.
