In a world where bad news seems endless, it was a genuine joy to check Deadline this morning and discover the brilliant casting for Netflix’s upcoming Pride & Prejudice series.
Emma Corrin will star as Elizabeth Bennet in the six-part limited series—a role previously mastered by the likes of Jennifer Ehle and Keira Knightley. As a nonbinary actor taking on this famously bold and unconventional character, Corrin’s casting feels especially exciting. And Olivia Colman as Mrs. Bennet? Perfection. Corrin and Colman playing mother and daughter? BritBox fans, we’ve hit the jackpot! Colman was hilarious as the quirky stepmom in Fleabag, but I can’t wait to see her navigate the chaos of marrying off her daughters in an Austen adaptation.
Of course, any Pride & Prejudice hinges on its Mr. Darcy, and Netflix nailed it with Slow Horses star (and Saoirse Ronan’s real-life partner) Jack Lowden. Will he top Colin Firth’s iconic wet-shirt moment? No—no one ever will—but with his talent and brooding charm, he’s more than up for the role.
The series is penned by Ghosts and Everything I Know About Love writer Dolly Alderton, with Corrin executive producing alongside Heartstopper director Euros Lyn. My expectations are officially through the roof. Netflix, I’m begging you—don’t let us down. We need this to be good.
