Emma Chamberlain’s beauty routine has taken a darker turn since she last shared her secrets with Vogue. Now 23, the Met Gala correspondent has embraced a moodier makeup style—starting with eerie red eyeshadow.

After her Biologique Recherche-heavy skincare routine, the YouTube star preps her lids with Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Eye Primer—a game-changer since she realized primer was the missing piece. “I used to do eyeshadow with no base, and it just wouldn’t stay,” she admits. “Then it hit me—maybe that’s why primer exists!”

With primer in place, she blends smoky shades from her Makeup by Mario palette. “Gray eyeshadow is underrated,” she declares. But the real star? A bold red from Natasha Denona’s Mini Bronze Palette. “I love red eyeshadow and liner,” she says.

Her obsession with red-rimmed eyes started at an Acne Studios event. “I told the makeup artist I wanted something spooky, and she suggested red,” Chamberlain recalls. “I was like, ‘Say no more—this is my moment.’ Now I work it into my looks all the time.”

After blending the red into her crease and lower lash line, she perfects her base with concealer, foundation, and contour—but skips blush. “Blush is too sweet for me,” she says. “I prefer a creepier vibe—more nuanced, less cute.”

Her beauty philosophy has evolved, too. “I care less about looking conventionally pretty now,” she explains. “I’d rather look interesting.”
