A summer romance is on the horizon thanks to a collaboration between Japanese apparel giant Uniqlo and Danish designer Cecilie Bahnsen, known for her fashion fairy tales. The partnership began when Bahnsen met Uniqlo’s head of R&D, Yukihiro Katsuta, at a store opening in Copenhagen. “When they suggested we collaborate, I thought it would be a great way to tell our story,” said Bahnsen, noting a shared focus on everyday wear, which she calls “everyday couture.”
This special collection, titled “Shapes of Poetry,” is designed for easy, graceful movement during sunny spring and summer days, evoking a bright, blue-sky feeling. It includes eight women’s styles and five for girls, featuring tops, skirts, skorts, and dresses as part of Uniqlo’s LifeWear line. Jersey is the primary fabric, which Bahnsen found allows for “a much softer romanticism” compared to her usual organzas, poplins, and tulles.
The color palette of red and pink, accented with sweatshirt gray, black, and white, is classic Bahnsen, as are the ruffles, floral touches, and smocking details. The collection offers two main silhouettes: one voluminous and frilled, and another smocked and more fitted. “It’s been a constant balance between romance and minimalism, peeling back to the essence of these jersey dresses,” Bahnsen explained, adding that the pieces can be worn as complete outfits or mixed and matched.
Sisterhood is a recurring theme in Bahnsen’s work and is reflected in the campaign, photographed in Japan by sisters Louise and Maria Thornfeldt, long-time collaborators. Personally, Bahnsen looks forward to spending the summer in the Danish countryside with her two young nieces, “eating and dressing like strawberries.”
The Uniqlo and Cecilie Bahnsen spring/summer 2026 collection will be available in all Uniqlo stores starting May 21, 2026.
