When Vivian Wilson glided down the runway at Demna’s debut Gucci show in a floor-length white gown with stunning hair, the 21-year-old immediately became the talk of Milan Fashion Week. Her role? To embody Venus, the Roman goddess of love.

Wilson’s journey to the Gucci runway started with a casting tape filmed in her driveway. She walked “like a crazy person, about eight million times” until she got the perfect take. The result? A place in a lineup that included names like Kate Moss and Mariacarla Boscono. “When I found that out, I was shaking in my boots,” Wilson tells Chloe Malle in today’s episode of The Run-Through. “We did it, though.”

But before the glamour of fashion month came a very different life. Wilson studied Japanese at a university in Tokyo and planned to earn a TEFL certificate to become an ESL teacher. A Teen Vogue cover changed everything. “It completely transformed my career,” she says. Now she’s in Paris, fully immersed in modeling—with back-to-back castings and endless NDAs—and completely at peace with the change. “I want to see how far I can go,” she says. “We’re just locking in and going for it.” Off the runway, she enjoys gay fantasy fiction, has a passion for Excel spreadsheets, is a devoted John Oliver fan, and has real ambitions in voice acting.

Also in this episode, Vogue editors share their insights from the Balmain, Courrèges, Dries Van Noten, and Saint Laurent shows at Paris Fashion Week.
