In just over a week, the 98th Academy Awards will be held in Los Angeles. While many categories seem wide open, it would be a surprise if best actress doesn’t go to Jessie Buckley. After winning at the Critics Choice Awards, SAG Awards, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes for her powerful performance in Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet, Buckley is on a winning streak.

Earlier this week, ahead of the theatrical release of The Bride!—her second collaboration with Maggie Gyllenhaal, now in theaters—Buckley spoke with The Run-Through guest hosts Taylor Antrim and Marley Marius. “Maggie has a real vision, and there’s so much intention behind what she wants to say with her stories and why she chooses to tell them at all,” Buckley said. (The two previously worked together on The Lost Daughter, Gyllenhaal’s 2021 directorial debut.) “I think what she asks of all her actors, and herself, is to confront the questions that challenge you.”

Buckley—who welcomed a daughter last year—also spoke about juggling diaper changes and red-carpet glamour during her overlapping press tours. The challenges were eased by working with celebrity stylist Danielle Goldberg, who encouraged Buckley to embrace her changing body. “Right from the start, she said, ‘I just want to see you.’ And for the first time, I felt like I could breathe,” Buckley shared.

Also in this episode, The Run-Through goes behind the scenes at the Rick Owens and Saint Laurent shows in Paris. Between makeup and fittings, models Alex Consani and Mona Tougaard talk about finding time to read amid the backstage chaos. (Kindred spirits!)
