Rosé always knew she’d become a dog mom someday—it was just a question of when she could fit it into her busy life. Between her work with Blackpink, being the face of Saint Laurent, and her solo music career, timing was everything. Then in 2020, the pandemic hit, and suddenly the world paused. With unexpected downtime during quarantine, Rosé realized it was finally the perfect moment to make her dream a reality.
Blackpink had just wrapped a record-breaking year—their single “How You Like That” topped charts globally, making history for a female K-pop group, and they headlined Coachella. But in between those milestones, Rosé was just like any other 20-year-old, scrolling endlessly through Instagram.
“Adopting a dog is a big decision—you’re taking responsibility for a living, breathing creature,” Rosé says over Zoom, fresh off two nights of performances at LA’s SoFi Stadium. At first, she visited pet stores but never felt that instant connection. So she turned to Instagram, browsing foster accounts and rescue organizations until she stumbled upon a photo of a seven-month-old terrier mix.
“I found Hank’s story—a little puppy in need of a home—and I was immediately drawn to him,” Rosé recalls fondly. “My family and I met him, and that was it. My heart was his. The next day, we brought him home.”
Naming Hank wasn’t easy. For two weeks, Rosé debated options with her Blackpink bandmates—Bluey? Benji? Nothing felt right. Then inspiration struck. “I’ve always loved Tom Hanks, and I noticed he signs his posts ‘-THanks,’” she explains with a laugh. “One morning, I woke up and thought, Hank—that’s it. I told the girls, and it stuck.”
Hank’s Instagram debut (@hank_says_hank) blew up instantly, gaining 40,000 followers in 30 minutes. Today, he boasts 4.6 million, making him one of the most-followed celebrity dogs. But fame hasn’t changed him—when Rosé is on tour or at Fashion Week, Hank enjoys a quiet life in Seoul with her family, chewing socks or tagging along to cafés. Occasionally, he steps into the spotlight, like joining Rosé for her Vogue Korea shoot. For his own cover moment, he posed with photographer Songyi Yoon—a favorite of K-pop stars like Jennie and Enhypen. Truly, like mother, like son.
Below, Rosé and Hank answer Dogue’s questionnaire.
Vogue: What’s your dog’s best quality?
Rosé: Loyalty. He’s incredibly loyal. If we’re out walking and I leave my sister at a café to go somewhere else with Hank, he won’t budge until she comes too. He refuses to leave anyone behind. He always insists on bringing my sister along with us. If we don’t carry him, he refuses to go.
Who would voice your dog in a movie?
Tom Hanks, without a doubt!
How do you talk to your dog?
I speak to him like he’s my child—gentle and reassuring, mixing Korean and English. Hank is actually bilingual, though I mostly use Korean with him. I guess you could say I practice gentle parenting with him.
What’s your dog’s weirdest nickname?
Lately, I’ve been calling him Bbanky (with a double B). It just kind of happened!
Where do you wish you could take your dog?
Everywhere! I’d love to bring him on flights and take him along wherever I go.
What’s the strangest place you’ve taken your dog?
Hank often comes with me to work in Korea—he’s a regular on set and at magazine shoots. My whole team adores him, and I try to bring him whenever possible.
If you could tell your dog one thing, what would it be?
Hank? Oh my gosh. I tell him so much already, and I like to think he understands. But if he didn’t, I’d say: I wish I could spend every single minute of the day with you.
What’s the most human-like thing your dog does?
He knows how to ask for things—like scraping his water bowl when he’s thirsty or pawing at his toy box and staring at us until we pick one out. He also seems happiest when our whole family is together. If I’m alone, he gets a little sad, but the more of us there are, the more excited he gets. It’s the sweetest thing.
What’s the most dog-like thing your dog does?
When we come home, he has to take our socks off. He grabs them with his teeth and pulls them right off our feet. He treats them like treasure—probably because they smell like us—and hides them under his blankets. It’s adorable.
What’s your full name?
Hank Park (no middle name).
Astrological sign?
I was born on May 5, which is Children’s Day in Korea—so I’m a Taurus. They say Tauruses have great style, and my mom swears I look good in everything.
Favorite toy?
My family’s socks.
Favorite meal?
I have allergies, so I eat a clean diet. But I love the homemade beef and chicken treats they make for me.
Worst habit?
I’m perfect—no bad habits!
Strangest habit?
My family thinks it’s weird that I steal all their socks. But I don’t see the problem!
